July 21st, 2010--8:50 PM, Marle Lodge, Albertson, South Africa

My oh my, what a whirl the past 24 hrs have been! We landed at the Jo'burg airport at 5:40 AM African time. We were forty minutes late, but we eagerly bounded off the plane, thrilled to be on our feet again. After making our way through the Jo'burg airport, we got throgh immigration with no trouble and all our luggage made it too, thank the Lord! We were met by Doug, our van driver, and a friendly porter helped load all our luggage into a trailer. Nick asked Doug where we could eat and he drove us to "Roman's Pizza where we ate our first African meal; pizza. :-) We then drove to Merle Lodge, where we are staying for the night. It is a quaint stucco complex. Cultural Note: all hotels, motels, resorts, etc are called lodges in Africa. Our room has three beds and a hot shower. A small tea set reminds us that Zimbabwe was once a British colony. Vickie, Sarah, and I are rooming together. Vickie has brought lots of chocolate. :-) Goodnight for now. Breakfast at six AM sharp. Till then...
